The Deuce?

So is it just me, or is naming your colostomy bag weird? Does naming it "Blake" make it less weird? I thought not. I spend ten minutes in the room talking to some gal about her abdominal pain and she keeps talking about "Blake" and how often he gets "changed" and I finally had to ask because she seemed a bit old to have a kid. What the hell am I doing? Where the hell am I?

  1. Perfectly normal.

You really made me laugh with this! Did this actually happen? How does a person choose a name for it? Does it just look like a "Blake" or something?

  2. OMG, that's too funny! Of course, I was only able to laugh after I recovered from the nauseating memory of a recent hospital stay where my roommate had a colostomy bag....whenever I saw them come by to change it, I prayed I'd be able to get up and leave the room. The stench was unbearable.

  3. a little poetic license is the only embellishment, and, of course, i changed the name of the colostomy bag to comply with HIPPA.

  4. Now THAT is weird. I've heard of men naming their you-know-what's and I've even heard of women naming their bosoms, but I have never heard of somebody naming a colostomy bag. (However, I'm extremely modest in "real life" aand have trouble with saying certain body part terms out loud---I can cuss like a truck driver yet I call a woman's private parts a "hoo-hoo". Guess that might be just as weird...)

  5. That's not weird at all. I name my bm's. Why, just today "justin" and I spent a good 20 minutes together, and then we parted ways.

  6. I'd name my colostomy bag, I think. It would keep me from having to say "the bag of sh*t hanging from my gut."

That being said, I think it's a little weird to refer to it as "Blake" to a physician.

  7. I think it is hilarious and kind of cute too.

BRN - If you haven' already seen it go to my blog and scroll down to see youtube video of Elliot's euphemisms for the nether regions. Totally hillarious.

Personally, I like where Kelso teases her about some woman's pain when she makes whizzywinkle out of her sea biscuit! LOL!

  8. "Justin"? Isn't he a distant relative to Mr. Hankey?

  9. Seaspray---
I was trying to look at your blog and my computer is acting up for pics right now--will try later. (I also had the same trouble on another blog, too---I hate this new Vista program....)

  10. Naming it is perfectly fine. I once saw a postitive Trichomonas and Nisserea culture from a colostomy stoma. THAT is not just wierd, that's totally disgusting.

  11. re. Wm. the coroner's comment:
I've had two cases of STDs related to colostomy sites: one HPV related warts and one Herpes.

Nothing gets me hotter than banging some stoma!

  12. Heh-heh. Without all the weirdness that goes on in a hospital, how could we all stay so amused, entertained and horrified simultaneously ???
