I just found this old Xray in my files. There is an arrow lodged in this gentleman's left gluteus maximus and the arrowhead is clearly visible in the upper right of the pelvis film. I do not recall the specifics of his story but I do know for a fact that one of the following three things happened.
- This gentleman was drunk in a deer stand and while trying to get off a quick shot got the arrow all askew and shot himself in the ass.
- This gentleman was out in the woods in a deer suit and was shot in the ass by a hunter.
- This gentleman was shot in the ass by his hunting partner who was also drunk. There may still have been a deer suit involved.
My money is on number one as it seems to ring a bell for me. Oh, by the way, indeterminate Throckmorton sign.

ReplyDeleteI remember when someone was brought to our little Mayberry RFD community ED who had been shot in the heart s/p hunting accident. Morning - no drinking involved. Our ED staff got him stabilized to go to OR where he was stabilized enough to be flown out to larger hospital for surgery. Thank God he lived.

I'm betting on number two. Who doesn't like a good "I was shot in the butt while dressed in a deer costume" story?
