Random thoughts from a few cantankerous American physicians. All contributors are board certified. Various specialties are represented here. I do not know where this will lead but hope it will at least be an enjoyable read. All of the names mentioned in this blog are pseudonyms, the ages have been changed, and in half the cases the gender as well. All photographs are published with patient consent or are digitally altered to preserve anonymity. Trust us, we're doctors.
Mmmm... when I was a teacher I had a student named Loveness. Last name Mattress.
ReplyDeleteWhy?
I went to a large public high school in an urban area. A number of our classmates got pregnant and had babies. One of them?
ReplyDeleteNamed her baby "Lu'Kemia."
'Kemia for short.
Yikes.
I went to high school (back in the late 70s) with a girl that had a baby and named him "Telly Savalas" and nicknamed him "Kojak."
ReplyDeleteI thought I had made it up until I saw the graduation photos in our hometown newspapers a few years back and there he was, Telly S. LastName, big as life.
I saw a Semaj the other day - which is James spelled backwards. Jujamji is better though.
ReplyDeleteVery biblical... And lo, verily I say to you, Jumanji....
ReplyDeleteSeveral years ago I read an article in the Detroit Free Press on recent baby names recorded in Wayne County... Topping that list were: Chevy, Infiniti, Celica, Del Monte (fruit). Canon (cameras), Armani, Chanel and Timberland. Keep in mind that none of these names are gender specific! Lastly but certainly not least my favorite...Courvoisier! Believe it or not 6 kids were branded this despicable moniker in 2003 alone. Poor kids. The cross they have to bear for their parents individuality.

Thought I had posted on earlier on my previous winner of the "poor kid with a ridiculous name" award but couldn't find it. A year ago I took care of an 11 month old boy named "Lestat". If you don't know who "Lestat" is just google it.
ReplyDeleteWe knew a little boy named "Mister" by his father - who seemed to have self-esteeem issues.
ReplyDeleteReason? "Now no one will ever make the mistake of not calling him MISTER!"

got my hair cut today. got on the subject of names with the nice gal who cut my hair. her last name was smith. she named her little girl "nevaeh aphrodite smith". "neveah" is heaven spelled backwards. i didn't ask the question that immediately occured to me that if the name was "heaven" backwards did it not predispose her to bring a little hell into the world. and "aphrodite"? isn't that a lot to live up to?
ReplyDeleteMy mom once told me of a family coming in to her ER with a baby whose name was pronounced "Shu-thed". The spelling? S-h-i-t-h-e-a-d...I kid you not.
ReplyDeleteS-h-i-t-h-e-a-d? Wasn't that one of Shirley Q Liquor's kid's names on the 12 days of Kwanzaa?
