A new one for me!

After this long you'd think I've seen almost everything. Yesterday EMS calls bringing in a trauma victim from a PLANE CRASH! Say what??!! A freakin' single engine plane crash! I've never seen a plane crash victim/survivior! Guy was pretty FUBAR, but will live..No great pics, just the usual assortment of broken shit and an HI..
Anybody else out there seen one of those? (being in the Armed Forces, God Bless those men and women, disqualifies you)

  1. While I haven't personally observed one on the day of the crash...
One of my best buddies wife and adopted daughter were in a single engine airplane crash. The accident occurred on a Christmas Eve and it claimed the life of the husband/father.

One of the first responders on the scene was a firefighter ... the brother/uncle of the mom and daughter.

  3. So, that Osprey...pretty much the death trap that it's portrayed as?

  4. I got a couple of straglers a few days later, but in 2000 a physician I worked with got 15-20 walking wounded patients over a couple of hours from a plane crash that killed 10 ( it was on landing, and skidded off the end). I'm kind of glad I wasn't working that night. The serious patients went to the trauma center.

  5. Assisted on one air race pilot who had his wing clipped by another airplane going around a pylon. Both planes crashed but the other pilot was a fatality. The Patient we had needed some plastic facial repairs only. Assorted lacerations, eyelid, eyebrow, forehead and temporal area degloved a bit but no skull or orbital FX. He was extremely fortunate. We have actually had several plane crash survivors show up in surgery over the last five years but then again, it is the trauma center.

  7. I had one a few years ago. It was a student pilot on one of his last flights before his license (so he had a good number of hours). He was killed but the instructor survived with some broken limbs.

  8. Actually the Osprey platform was extensively reworked to correct the flight controls that were causing it to flip.. our flight was pretty cool, minus some airsickness.. it weird to be flying, sitting perfectly level with your shoulder forward and be going both sideways and up.. and that being normal...

  9. Kid came in after a single engine plane crash. He busted roughly 30% of the bones in his body and had the most complex facial and calvarial fractures I have ever seen (and I've seen plenny). New neurosurgeon on call that day. Very aggressive. He did a frontal craniectomy for decompression and just about took that kid's whole face out. Wicked.

  11. My husband walked away from a small plane crash 14 years ago with a dislocated shoulder. The engine died midflight. He stalled the airplane in order to crash into a chain-link fence to avoid a freeway full of cars.

    He's a lucky man.

  12. No plane crashes, thank goodness - although a Cessna landed without gear a couple of days ago (no injuries - amazing).

They do bring us the occasional woman in pre-term labor from the local airport, but I think that's got to be much more common.
