Grandpa Won't Eat

So this digitally altered picture demonstrates a diagnosis that should not be made by CT scan, but by a nurse with at least two neurons that fire through a working synapse OR a family member that can answer the following question... "what comes next in this series? A... B... C... ?"

History: Grandpa won't eat now, he just spits it out. It started last week (and hasn't eaten that well since his four MIs and six strokes. Hell, he's having problems smoking now!) And by the way, we can't find his dentures. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.

  1. A least they found his partial denture. Wonder if anybody at the nursing home bothered to open his mouth and look?

Swallowing metal/acrylic removable partial dentures is not that uncommon especially in somewhat obtunded patients. The design and metal clasps make it easy for them to hang up. Obviously Grandpa did not have much of a gag reflex.

On an even grosser note...were they sure that was actually Grandpa's partial? Don't laugh I have seen them switched and shared!

  2. To DocV,

    regarding the grosser note..

there's the joke about the visitor to the rural elderly lady who says, "Auntie, where's your teeth?".
To which Auntie replies: "Oh, I gave them to Jane. She's going in to town!"

    maybe it's not a joke.

  3. Maybe they assumed that the nursing students threw them away.

  4. You Should have let anorexic Granddad starve...Think about the poor doc who'll see him nexttime when they bring him back for "Grandpa Won't Poop"...Funny how the midlevel providers always seem to pass on those patients....
