The Disability-Depression Theorem

One's disability rating is directly proportional to the seriousness of one's depressive illness. How else to explain the constant battle between doctor and patient to increase one's disability rating? If twenty percent disability is not making you happy, then forty percent must be the answer right? And the more one buys into the helplessness that a disability rating seems to engender the less one is able to accomplish anything. Snowball. What say you?

  1. Did you get a job as a comp and pen evaluator at the Spa?

What I love are the psychiatrist notes stating that a 70+ yo man is not employable, therefore should be paid at 100% disability. IMO, these pensions should decline in retirement and not continue at a constant level.

  3. We all tend to like our leisure time, but when did becoming a parasitic drain on society become a life goal? No WONDER they are depressed...humans are wired to be productive. I have a family member who is now too disabled to work...but not too disabled to spend all day on FaceBook playing games. This person has tons of computer experience..surely this person could be doing work on line rather than playing "Farmville" for hours at a stretch???

  4. I wonder what it is about people that some people handle a lot and some people just quit trying. My aunt had a meningioma a few years ago that left her mostly blind before surgery and completely blind after surgery. (she was hysterical right after surgery...seeing little green aliens all around the room even when she couldn't see anything else. We both laughed about it just like we did when I was in the hospital room with "caution:radioactive" tape over the doorway.) She continues to work and has a very happy successful life. Someone else in my life is on disability when no one in the family can even figure out what the disability is. Just how easy is it to get on disability? You would think it would be difficult, but a lot of things are not how they seem like they should be.

  5. I was depressed for about 8 seconds when I discovered that Gov. Sarah Palin turned down a centerfold deal by Hugh. That's worth what? About 5% for those 8 seconds of my life right?

  6. I am with CardioNP, what kind of new job have you landed? First it was about refusing to sign FMLA papers or something similar, now you ponder disability percentages. Have you become a bureaucrat? ;-)
