Random thoughts from a few cantankerous American physicians. All contributors are board certified. Various specialties are represented here. I do not know where this will lead but hope it will at least be an enjoyable read. All of the names mentioned in this blog are pseudonyms, the ages have been changed, and in half the cases the gender as well. All photographs are published with patient consent or are digitally altered to preserve anonymity. Trust us, we're doctors.
Well, sure I know WHAT I'm looking at, but that's about it.

Well we're in the pelvis for those who need orientation...past that?? any chance for a bit of history or do we just guess??
ReplyDeleteDermoid tumor maybe?? (but I don't see any teeth)
OF
Pretty far along :(
ReplyDelete-SCRN
Definitely a fetus. Looks as though the skull's been crushed.
ReplyDeleteIUFD. Macerated.
ReplyDeleteVijay: IUFD too, Mofo, and Good Try Old Fart, and does Medicare cover Carbon Dating your stool samples??? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteThats a deviated trachea if I've ever seen one...
Frank
Pregnancy test negative.
ReplyDelete@911Doc: It still looks like a macerated / mummified fetus in this single section CT image. The differential would be Dermoid as Oldfart said. But that wouldn't explain the air pockets.
ReplyDelete@Frank: I have no idea what you mean!
good for you for sticking to your guns Vijay...
ReplyDeletethe due date for this pregnancy was three months prior to this scan.
Its an obvious case of CT-induced fetal demise, aren't there cheat sheets now-a-days to make sure you don't radiate a fetus unless you really have to?
ReplyDeleteOh, the due date was PRIOR to the scan, damn lazy babies now adays, spendin all day sleepin in amnionic fluid, instead of WORKING, like I did when I was a baby.
@Vijay I was joking, y'see, I was acting like I didn't know what IUFD was, OK, I didn't, but it sounded sort of vaguley profane, like "HMFIC" or "WTF", so I was just giving you your own profane abreviation back at ya,oh whats the use, you Indians don't think anythings funny, except for "Cholera Cots"
PS, that still looks like a neck
Frank
im going with dead baby
ReplyDeletedoes dermoid=teratoma?
Obstruction secondary to consumption of a whole Chihuahua?
ReplyDeletehey Vijay,
ReplyDelete"Ghandi" sucked, no way it should have beat "Officer & a Gentleman".And whats with the red dots on the forehead? Why make it easy for the snipers?
and whats with India havin a Hydrogen Bomb?, shouldn't nukes come AFTER feeding everybody...
Frank
This fetus is not in the uterus.
ReplyDeleteMRI of SCat's pelvis?
ReplyDelete-SCRN
Caught the OB walking by in the cafe. "Either an abdominal pregnancy or a dermoid, but that spine is too well formed to be a dermoid."
ReplyDeleteScore MS1! EUFD at 6 mos.
ReplyDeleteLittle cheater you are MS1
ReplyDeleteAin't cheatin ain't tryin.

ReplyDelete(Weaving handbasket)
For non meds I think EUFD = external uterine fetal demise based on my "medical abbreviations pocket card," which doesn't actually have this on there.
ReplyDeleteWhy'd it take 3 months to come in though? That person is still pretty big around, maybe they like being pregnant to a pathological degree?
Actually delivered one of those horror shows during my horror show of an Internship..
ReplyDeleteNot much worse than your average delivery though, none of that annoying crying anyways..
and in Med School my classmate who's now an obscenely rich FP in LA, so rich I know he's got somethin shady goin on, but he won't tell me.. where was I?
Oh yeah, we had a patient with a dead baby inside her, and he went out to console the Grandmother.
Only problem it was the wrong Grandmother, honest mistake, there were only like 50 of em in the waiting room, and he probably still has marks where she grabbed his arm with that deathgrip Black Grandmothers will do when you try and console them about there dead baby when they just saw the baby in the Nursery window 5 minutes earlier...
Frank
@911doc I thought of abdominal ectopic, but was misled by the thick capsule around the fetus. Thought that was the thinned out myometrium. Great case.
ReplyDelete@Frank it's Gandhi not Ghandi. The red dot is a bindi. And we only have nukes because we are planning to use them to steal food for the hungry millions. Or billions. I can never get the zeroes straight.
Vijay... Nicely done... Very nice... Frank, you gotta give Vijay a golf clap for that one no?
ReplyDeleteOh Sure, 9-11, I mean 6-7
ReplyDelete(Y'see Folks "9-11"s football "team" went 6-7 this year, so I'm callin him "6-7" but he won't give me the common courtesy of a pissed off reaction)oh, and did I tell you about how I poisoned UGA VII's(or was it VI? VIII?)kibbles & bits?
And Vijay, thanks for the spelling lesson, and for calling a mummified dead baby a "Great Case" you probably thought Bho-pal was a "Great Opportunity to test Methyl-Iocyanate on Humans" too..
just curious, how fast does the elephant have to walk for your average CT scan?
Frank
hey 14-0* (the asterisk indicates that Auburn's season will be vacated when photos show up on TSG of Cam, the Reverend Newton, and Charlie Sheen riding unicorns through piles of unmarked bills whilst being on the drug "Charlie Sheen"), guess you have a lot in common with that douche who poisoned the trees after all.
ReplyDeleteI score it as a 1/2 point for Vijay, as Drackman went to Aw-Burn, named for a flight reaction to a hot stove where they are not particular about spelling, but the laser joke was pretty good. To me, anyway, as I had to swipe sneezed beer off my laptop.
ReplyDeleteThe Bhopal joke was low, as that was Union Carbide and Vijay strikes me as a follower of the Dow (Jones, that is, buy Gold, Texas free).
j, great question... in all honesty this person figured she was pregnant, figured 9 mos. was about standard... decided to come in at 11 mos. quick on the uptake she was not. imbued with a degree if savoire- faire? You be the judge.
ReplyDeleteCjrun... Need a gig as official MDOD statistician and umpire?
ReplyDeleteExcellent post. I want to thank you for this informative read, I really appreciate sharing this great post. Keep up your work. . .
ReplyDeleteVijay,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on standing up to Frank! He thinks everyone here is so impressed with his medical
knowhoe.
