Random thoughts from a few cantankerous American physicians. All contributors are board certified. Various specialties are represented here. I do not know where this will lead but hope it will at least be an enjoyable read. All of the names mentioned in this blog are pseudonyms, the ages have been changed, and in half the cases the gender as well. All photographs are published with patient consent or are digitally altered to preserve anonymity. Trust us, we're doctors.
Why not give the power to veterinarians? Seems a better choice than some of these groups.
ReplyDeleteBe afraid. Be very afraid. I am a pretty damn good nurse, with a ton of alphabet soup after my name, but I practice NURSING, not medicine. And when I am sick I want you to have "M.D." after your name before you start to muck around with my body..because if it was simple and obvious and needed basic care at home, I wouldn't be SEEKING medical care.
ReplyDeletePattie, RN (and a bunch of other boring letters...)
Guess I'll have to go back and get my midwife's license to actually practice. Lord, let my powerball numbers hit Wednesday. I don't ask for much.
ReplyDeleteS.C., M.D. (midwife to be)
shrodinger, you can corner the market on OB, maybe take a weekend course and become certified to do vasectomies on the side. I am going to become an OR Tech. Then I can do CABG's, Gastric Bypasses and Lap Choles all day long and make a fortune.
ReplyDeleteInevitable when your system isn't one that "real doctors" want to work within.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite comment on article: "Midwives are fabulous people...". I agree. This isn't the point. My mother is a "fabulous person" too, but I wouldn't want her intubating MY newborn!
Ay, Ay, Ay....eh.
