Back to the Barrooms (apologies to the mighty Merle)

Don't get me wrong people, I am done with Emergency Medicine (I can quit anytime), and I have sold out to the government (under extreme duress), but good God, how long does the paperwork take? I mean someone called me from some government office 5 weeks ago and documents were sent and received and exactly where are we in this whole selling my soul process?

In the meantime I am forced to do something to bring in a paycheck because I didn't manage to get rich off the previous twelve years of ER practice (and the whole 'doc in the box' thing was bad for me and my employer), so, it is with regret aplenty that I head back into the jungle for a bit. 'Cat, you beat me after all.

This does, however, have one benefit... patient stories. Stay tuned and I will try to stay focused on the real goal... getting into the "I take more from the government than they take from me" bracket. It can't be that hard... only 53% of Americans pay federal income tax now. Advice appreciated.

  1. Meh, hard to gather what you are doing and what you need. I suspect that you are from the state once named Franklin and want to stay there; it's always difficult to limit geography.

I know folks working the Haiti situation and I'd bet they could use some relief on the Occupational Medicene side of things. Relief workers are constantly needing minor physicals and documentation setup and crews must be rotated. It's probably not a bad gig, for short term cash flow work. The Trade Center clean-up took us over 18 months; Katrina more than that. People are needed, long after the initial response. People that are there need to get home now and then.

If you're interested, drop me a line and I'll see if I can set you up with the folks on the ground.

  2. Become an enlisted member of the military, your taxes will be decreased greatly but so will your paycheck and your medical coverage! Whee...
